Strictly pro Giovanni refuses to let Rose take blame for last minute mistake

Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice refused to let partner Rose Ayling-Ellis take the blame for a mistake at the end of their latest routine.

Having blown everyone and got a near perfect score for their powerful and poignant Couple's Choice performance, Giovanni and EastEnders actress Rose were hoping to keep up their own high standard with a Quickstep to Love is An Open Door from modern Disney classic Frozen.

Their Musicals Week dance was going extremely well, right until the end, when both Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse picked up on an error.

After being put on the spot about it, Giovanni held his hands up straight away to admit it was his mistake.

As they headed to get their score and joined host Claudia Winkleman, Giovanni was clearly annoyed with himself, with Rose reassuring him that everything was alright.

Things were more than alright as, after guest judge Cynthia Erivo gave them a 10 and the other three each awarded a 9, Rose and Giovanni ended up with a brilliant score of 37 out of 40.

That was enough to see them finish third on the leaderboard behind AJ and Kai who got 39 and Tilly and Nikita, who bounced back from being in the dance-off for a second time to finish top of the pile with a perfect 40/40.

Ahead of Saturday's Musicals special, Rose and Giovanni were still the bookies red hot tip to win this year, with their odds of 2/9 putting them well ahead of their nearest rivals John and Johannes.

Meanwhile, despite getting a personal best score of 31, BBC Breakfast Dan Walker was the favourite to go this week.
