Strictly judges Shirley and Motsi race to shed lockdown weight ahead of new series

Strictly judges are racing to shed their lockdown pounds before the new series kicks off in 10 days.

Head judge Shirley Ballas, 61, admitted: “Over lockdown I gained some weight, so I’m trying to get back to where is comfortable for me.”

Shirley, who was hit by Covid earlier this year, says her ideal weight is 8st 8lb.

She said last summer she was a stone heavier than she preferred to be and had put on a total of 20lb during the first lockdown.

But she had lost some of it by exercising and only eating between midday and 6pm.

Motsi Mabuse, 40, revealed she has been on a 12-week health kick, starting her day with cold tea and water. The show judge has lost 1st 4lb this year.

“I’m taking care of myself,” said Motsi. “I invested in a Peloton bike – which I love.

“Fitness has also made me take care of what I eat. Chocolate, sweets and wine can take you off your routine.”

Craig Revel Horwood, 56, lost 14lb by eating healthily and sweating through performances in a giant suit for ITV’s Masked Dancer, which “kept me trim”.

Ex-dancer Anton Du Beke, 55, is new on the panel when the BBC show returns on September 18.

Shirley told Hello! magazine: “He’ll approach everything with kindness, because he’s been on the other end of that wagging finger.”
