Strictly judges scold Gorka Marquez for almost dropping Maisie Smith on her head

Strictly Come Dancing judges stared daggers at Gorka Marquez after almost wrecking Maisie Smith's return to form.

The pro dancer came very close to dropping the EastEnders star - a moment which could have seen her hopes to remain in the contest seriously dented.

Maisie is still reeling from last weekend, being left "gutted" by the public vote after she found herself in the bottom two alongside singing star Max George.

She reportedly "cried all night" after the dreadful display but vowed to put things right.

However, Gorka nearly scuppered their chances as he came close to dropping his partner after she backflipped during the salsa.

The moment didn't go unnoticed by the judges and they scolded the dancer after the moment of madness nearly proved costly.

All three pointed out the howler and refused to let him off the hool.

Craig Revel Horwood said: "It was a bit unfortunate about the bad landing but I’m blaming your partner."

Gorka took responsibility - and thankfully for the actress it didn't change the judge's mind and they were thrilled with what they saw.

She got a 9 from each of them and it was her highest set of scores so far.

Maisie couldn't have been happier after a tough week after her performance last Saturday was panned.

It was claimed she burst into tears after the feedback but quickly set about putting things right.

A source told The Sun : "Poor Maisie has been so upset - she's been crying all night and has really taken it to heart.

"She's young and living away from home for the first time so it's hard on her."

*Strictly Come Dancing returns on Sunday on BBC One.
