Strictly fun as dancers hit the floor for charity at NI Primary school

Pupils from a Co Down school brought the house down at a local Strictly Come Dancing show on Friday night.

Our Lady and St Patrick Primary School held its inaugural fundraiser with family and friends raising the roof in what was a bumper night for all involved.

More than 150 guests roared on the little couples in a fabulous night with thousands of pounds raised for McMillan Cancer and school funding.

And one of the organisers told Belfast Live that the event almost never took place when lights and microphones previously promised were never recieved.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Claire Walsh said: "We were due to get the lights elsewhere but about two days before the event there was no contact.

"But thankfully a company called AJC Illuminations came to our rescue and fitted the school hall with lights and microphones for the event, which saved us hundreds of pounds.

"It was their donation to us as part of the show, which was so heartwarming.

"The children put in so much effort since October and they pulled off a great show on the night.

"Myself and Siobhan O'Hara taught the children the dances and we couldn't be prouder.

School Principal, Simone Prunter, said she was "delighted" with the standard of performance from the pupils.

"I have to say the show was fantastic.

"Claire and Siohban put great dedication into the show.

'At first it was suppose to be an after school club and it turned into a fantastic Strictly Come Dancing show.

"I even had children from P3 and P4 asking if they would get to do the dancing when they reached P5, which was brilliant."

Commenting, one of the judges for the evening, Colin McGrath MLA said: “The talent, enthusiasm and ability of this group of young people was amazing. Well done to all the team and their fabulous work.

“A real credit to their school and community and excellent example of how staff and children can work together to help charity, have fun and let ability shine.”
