Strictly's John Whaite admits clash with Johannes ahead of semi-final dance-off

John Whaite challenged Johannes Radebe over their dance-off routine on Sunday night, saying 'no' to the dancer's original suggestion.

The Strictly Come Dancing finalists found themselves in the bottom two for the first time over the weekend, ahead of Saturday's grand finale of the BBC show.

After going head-to-head with CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson and professional partner Nancy Xu, John and Johannes made history over the weekend - becoming the first ever all-male couple to make it to a Strictly final.

Saturday night saw them performing an emotional Couple's Choice routine, before turning up the heat with an upbeat jive - the latter saving them in Sunday's dance-off.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on Monday morning, the duo revealed there had been a small clash over their choice of dance-off routine - with Bake Off star John challenging professional Johannes' first pick.

"I can't believe it, it hasn't sunk in," John, 32, confessed on The Radio 2 Breakfast Show yesterday.

He continued: "If someone told me that I'd be in the final of Strictly a year ago, two years ago, I'd have thought they were having a laugh.

"I'm just so happy that we get to do three more dances, we're going to do two of our favourite dances and it's just going to be incredible."

The Strictly finalists then went on to discuss how they found being in the bottom two for the first time since joining this year's series of the ballroom dancing show.

Broadcaster Zoe quizzed Johannes and asked if he knew culinary star John had it in him to get through it.

"I definitely did," the professional dancer exclaimed.

"I knew he had the higher power.

He continued: "Because I was suggesting that we do our Couple's Choice, and he turned around and said 'Johannes, no, we're going to do that jive again, I've never felt so alive'

"And I knew that it's right, and I said you know what, whatever happens at least he's happy and that has been my goal for this season, to make sure that John has enjoyed this."

John then went on to explain how he had been "expecting" to appear in the dreaded dance-off on Sunday night.

"I was expecting it, I don't know why, I just knew on Friday when we were doing rehearsals, I just knew I was going to be in the dance-off," he recalled to Zoe.

"I was completely at peace with it because I didn't expect to get to the semi-finals, let alone get to the finals.

He continued: "So, when we got the opportunity to do the dance-offs, I didn't recognise myself - I danced like I've never danced before and I don't know why, and I hope I can dance like that again this weekend because it was great."

John and Johannes will join Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice and AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington this Saturday, as the three remaining couples battle it couple for the Glitterball trophy.

*The Strictly Come Dancing final air on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
