Strictly fans slam 'ridiculous' song choice for Rose and Giovanni as she reveals 'fierce' transformation

Strictly Come Dancing favourite Rose Ayling-Ellis took on a tough challenge when she danced the Paso Doble with her pro dance partner Giovanni Pernice.

The EastEnders actress, who is the BBC1 contest's first deaf contestant, performed solo at the start of the dance which had a stormy backdrop.

The thunderous dance was performed to a brooding version of the upbeat folk classic California Dreamin' by The Mamas and the Papas.

@PaulineSearle3 commented on Twitter: "What a ridiculous song to choose for a Paso."

@edberg72 asked: "Who picks the music? What on earth has California Dreamin’ got to do with Paso?!"

@c_jas tweeted: "Liked the Paso but odd music choice #Strictly"

@RayL11455 said with a 'thinking face' emoji: "If someone asked me what a classic paso song was I’m not sure I would say ‘California Dreaming’"

And @youngkimmie tweeted: "California Dreaming was never meant to be a Paso Doble."

But others loved the reworking of the 1965 hit which showcased a different 'femme fatale' side on the dancefloor to Rose following her adorable Frozen routine last weekend.

@Jules_Clarke said: "So gothic a dance to a hippy choooon."

@SnowdonPamela said: "I loved that. A total reworking of a great song by the band, made for a dramatic dance. xx"

@LizMM67 wrote: "That was totally awesome for Rose."

@salferry76 wrote: "Loved seeing the fierce side of Rose tonight."

@cathysanderson1 praised: "What a great version of California Dreaming that was spectacular!"

And @KRutlidge commented: "Liked this dance, not least as I never have imagined California Dreaming as the backdrop for a Paso!"
