Strictly fans rush to defend John Whaite and Johannes Radebe after Craig slams their dance as 'odd'

Strictly Come Dancing fans flocked to Twitter to defend John Whaite and Johannes Radebe after their latest performance failed to impress judge Craig Revel Horwood.

The Strictly favourites, who soared to the top of the leaderboard last week with their Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired dance for Movie Week, confused sharp-tongued Craig with their American Smooth to I Knew You Were Waiting by Aretha Franklin and George Michael.

Afterwards Craig described the performance as 'odd' and said the start of the dance 'felt like we were clubbing it down at Heaven.'

"It was very, very odd," he said.

Fans wondered if Craig was 'hangry' (BBC)

He found fault that Bake Off winner John's 'bottom was sticking out.'

And he said: "For me the whole thing didn't come together."

But supporters of the pair disagreed with Craig.

"Oh my Jojo and John give me goosebumps every time they dance," said one fan on Twitter.

"Craig needs chocolate tonight I don't know what he is watching. I loved it."

Another tweeted: "I adored it! You two have such range! Did Craig have dinner yet? He seems hangry. But you’re gorgeous."

And another said: "Can we all just agree now - these two are in the final - stunning."

Another fan of the BBC dance contest commented: "Absolutely LOVING the fire, energy and talent of John and @jojo_radebe every week.

"They make me smile, they make me emotional and that watching two men dancing together is the most natural thing in the world."

And another wrote: "Brilliant routine. At times you couldn't get a cigarette paper between them on hold. And the lift was amazing."

But other Strictly watchers agreed with Craig.

"I think I'm in disagreement with most but I didn't like the suits especially the brown one and the song was very American 80s so I kind of agree with Craig I wasn't sure what it was trying to be," said one.

"I agree with Craig yet again. He's the only one who speaks the truth. Even though he did it well, the dance itself was a bit all over the place. For an American Smooth it didn't work," wrote another.

And another said: "I hate agreeing with Craig, but in this instance, he's right.

"It was a very mixed up American Smooth."
