Strictly fans joke at 'irony' of 'stiff as a corpse' David James' exit ahead of Halloween

Strictly Come Dancing fans often talk about special advantages different celebrities have when joining the BBC show and viewers believe they would have seen David James' talents next week if he had not been axed.

After tonight's show - which saw the former goalkeeper voted off - viewers shared their "disappointment" that the athlete has missed out on appearing the upcoming Halloween themed show.

TV watchers took to Twitter to share that David would of come into his own as a horror character thanks to being as "stiff as a corpse".

One jibbed: "So David James has been booted out of Strictly. Fair play, he was as stiff as a corpse. A bit of irony, as it might have served him well if he had got to Halloween week! #Strictly."

"Oh I agree. Really stiff. And never cracked a smile. David James I mean," typed another micro-blogger.

Others claimed he resembled fictional manservant Lurch from The Addams Family - which would have been ideal for horror week.

Another added: "Disappointed. David James would've made a brilliant Lurch during Halloween week."

Ahead of the results, another mused: "David James makes it to Halloween week on #StrictlyComeDancing he'll make a great lurch. #nuffsaid ."

Some fans were also left baffled as to if David was relieved or sad to have been axed from the popular series.

One quizzed: "Can't work out whether David James is genuinely gutted about leaving #Strictly or he just hated the whole experience."

"Ever get the feeling that David James is rather relieved it's all over.. #Strictlyresults," penned a viewer.

Sunday night's instalment of Strictly saw David become the fourth celebrity to leave the 2019 series.

The former footballer and his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova were sent home in a unanimous decision by the judges.

The pair found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard after failing to impress with their Jive to 'Such a Night' by Michael Bublé on Saturday night.

They lost out to BBC Breakfast star Mike Bushell and his partner Katya Jones, who gave a stronger performance in the dreaded dance-off.

When asked by presenter Tess Daly about his time on the show, David confessed he felt he had let Nadiya down.

The football pundit said: "Oh I’ve loved it. I feel so bad I’ve let Nadiya down in a sense. I’ve enjoyed it but I’ve put some weight on though."

Sending out an emotional message to his co-stars while discussing his highlights, David added: "Having the best partner and the guys up there. Everyone’s lovely.

Praising her partner, Nadiya said: "He’s done so well. I’m so proud of you.

"From the first day he couldn’t lift his elbows up or stand straight and now he’s delivered such an amazing jive. I’m so proud."
