Strictly fans in meltdown over Kevin Clifton's goth phase that saw him rejected from show

Strictly Come Dancing fans couldn't contain themselves during a special spin-off, The Professionals, as Kevin Clifton made a huge confession.

The star showed viewers a picture from his past when he was a goth, with long black hair, make-up and black nail varnish on his nails.

He was posing alongside ex-wife Karen Hauer, and Kevin revealed his look back then cost him an initial place on the BBC ballroom series.

Kevin explained that in that particular year, was rejected from the show because of his Gothic look, while Karen made it onto the line-up.

He was also rejected a second time, before finally being made a Strictly professional later on.

As he made the confession on the special episode, viewers confessed they couldn't get over his former look.

Taking to Twitter , viewers shared their verdict as one fan even called for him to perform a "goth dance routine" on the show.

One viewer admitted: "Goth Kevin still has me roaring with laughter!"

Another tweeted: "*petition for Kevin goth dance routine*."

A third added: "Discovering their audition stories is fascinating. Kevin was a goth and rejected twice!"

Kevin eventually made the pro line-up (BBC/PA)

Kevin himself said: "I applied with Karen. She got the job, I didn't get it.

"I had long black hair, eye liner, black fingernails... don't think I'm your average ballroom dancer guys."

He added: "They said, 'We'd love to take Karen, but not that guy, we have no need for this Gothic scarecrow who thinks he's the rockstar of the ballroom'."

Co-star Alijaz Skorjanec then asked: "You auditioned as a goth?" and he was left in hysterics as he replied: "Yeah..."

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 launches next weekend on BBC One.
