Strictly fans complain minutes in over 'weird' song choices for special BBC themed week

Strictly Come Dancing fans complained moments into the show over the 'weird' song choices.

The BBC One show returned for the fifth week today, as they marked a very special 100 years of the BBC. As part of the theme, the remaining celebrities and their professional partners danced to a theme tune from a popular and iconic BBC show or they performed their dance to a track that represented a key part of the BBC service.

As the show returned to screens this week, following Matt Goss' exit last weekend, fans were quick to complain as they took to Twitter to vent their frustrations. Angry fans puzzled on how the stars could dance to theme tunes, which included Tyler and Diane's routine to the Doctor Who theme tune whilst Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez did a Charleston to the Blue Peter theme.

Frustrated fans took to social media as they fumed over the theme – and how most of the songs had no words with them.

"I’m not really liking this dancing to theme tunes. It’s all a bit weird. #strictly," one wrote, whilst a second added: "Its so weird having them dance to songs with no words its rly thrown me off guard #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing."

A third shared: "I don’t like these outfits and not sure I’m going to enjoy the music either tbh, not sure it quite works. However it’s only dance one so I fingers crossed it’s not as weird as it currently looks #strictly."

"Is it me or is this just weird #strictly," a fourth wrote, with a fifth adding on social media: "Think this is going to be a pretty weird week tbh, but we’ll see! #Strictly #BBC100." A sixth shared: "The music this week is ridiculous #strictly."

Another wrote: "I don’t care if the BBC is 100 please can we have proper Strictly back next week? This is all too weird. #Strictly."

Fans quickly called for the theme to return to its normal one next week.

As part of the BBC themed week to mark 100 years of service, the stars danced to a number of different theme tunes as well as some tracks which paid tribute to the BBC's incredible services.

Sarah James, Executive Producer for Strictly Come Dancing, said of the theme: "We know how much viewers love the Strictly themed weeks so it’s fantastic to be able to announce a new one, celebrating the BBC’s centenary. It’s the icing on the cake to be able to confirm that we are returning to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom this year, we can’t wait to get back to Blackpool!"
