Strictly Come Dancing winner Bill Bailey to perform at Festival of Comedy in Newport's Tredegar Park

Comedian and Strictly Come Dancing winner Bill Bailey has been announced as the headline act for the first ever Festival of Comedy in Newport.

Bailey will be headlining at Tredegar Park in the city on Friday, August 13, and joining him for the show will be Reginald D Hunter and Gary Delaney. Tickets are on sale for the show from Wednesday, July 14 at 10am.

Bailey is a familiar face across the UK thanks to his stand-up comedy and his regular appearances on panel shows. But he’s probably most known for shocking the nation by dancing his way to the Strictly final in 2020, becoming the oldest ever winner of the show.

He launched his Larks in Transit tour in 2018, which explored his many tales of shenanigans and mayhem from over 20 years as a travelling comedian. The final leg of the tour had to be cut short due to the pandemic, but he's now announced a new limited run of socially-distanced performances to take place this summer.

Since Hunter’s first UK comedy gig 21 years ago, the Georgia-born performer’s honest observations both onstage and on TV and radio have garnered him a cross-generational fan base. He has appeared frequently on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, QI and Have I Got News For You?

Gary Delaney is most known for his long standing Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo appearances. He is the only comic to have got two gags in the same top 10 for Dave’s TV Funniest Jokes from the Edinburgh Fringe.

Accompanying the line-up will be a live house band, street food, and a fun fair alongside a special guest compere.

The first 500 tickets are available at £25 and go on sale on Wednesday. You can purchase them here.

The team behind The Giggling Goat will also be bringing rock band Feeder back home to Tredegar Park on August 6, Wales’ best retro festival Party in the Park on August 7, and the Colour Clash Festival on August 14.
