Strictly Come Dancing fans mocked the Irish jig performed by the show's professionals, calling it ''border line offensive".
The opening scenes of the popular Saturday night show saw the pro performers take to the dance floor, which was transformed into an Irish pub for the up-tempo routine.
But many fans were left appalled by the track, The Safety Dance by Canadian band Men Without Hats, which they felt was in poor taste or 'just weird', reports Manchester Evening News.
"Ah yes, that ancient Irish folk song 'The Safety Dance'. I bet my ancestors danced to it nightly in rural Cork," mocked one viewer on Twitter.
"My Irish husband is sitting here deeply distressed," commented another.
Another remarked: "This opening number is just weird."
"Awful! If you're going to do something at least do it properly. Celtic is Irish, Scottish and Welsh," said another.
While another asked: "SAFETY DANCE?!?!????"

And the criticism didn't stop there, as some viewers also didn't approve of the nod to the Titanic disaster movie staring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, and gave scathing reviews on social media.
One penned: "Two token Irish dancers brought in amongst the stomping and leeching male performances that the 'cailins' are 'only delighted with.'
"Really poor show. And of course the setting is a pub. Go maith. Not."
And another commented with an unimpressed-face emoji: "An Irish themed dance set in a PUB??? Oh wow SHOCKER."
But as with any performance there were also those who gave the routine the firm thumbs-up.

"Love this opening dance," said one.
"Finally a bit of Irish dancing on #strictly," cheered another.
"Best opening routine ever - full of energy," enthused another.
While others said pro dancer Nikita Kuzmin was a dead ringer for Leo.
Another added on Twitter: "They’re really leaning into the fact Nikita looks exactly like young Leo #Strictly"
