Strictly Come Dancing: Tom Fletcher's wife Giovanna left in tears as he receives best score of series

Strictly Come Dancing star Tom Fletcher nailed his best score of the series so far - and left his wife in tears in the process.

The McFly star wowed the judges with his Paso Doble, receiving perfect tens from Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse on his way to a score of 38.

Motsi said "something had changed" in Tom, praising his "leading" and "strong character" while Shirley said some of the steps he performed were "just up my street" and that he had executed the dance "superbly".

It was his highest score of the series, and it left Tom's wife Giovanna visibly emotional.

As the judges gave Tom their glowing praise, the cameras cut to his spouse in the audience who was shedding tears after watching her husband's powerful performance.

Host Claudia Winkleman, talking to the star and his partner Amy Dowden before receiving their scores, also called attention to Giovanna, who was at the show with her mother, saying she had been "brushing back tears".

Claudia also said that Amy's parents had been in the audience to watch the stunning performance.

Speaking after receiving comments from the judges, Claudia posed to Tom that the Paso Doble had been the dance he had "feared the most" but that he had been "unabashed in his love for it".

Tom said in response: "I couldn't believe it. When Monday came I was dreading it, but then by the end of the day I was like, 'I think I really love the Paso Doble'!

"It's so much fun and we've had the best week learning it and I had the most amazing time tonight, I've loved it."

The musician also took a moment to send a quick message to his children after receiving the stunning scores, saying they would be "going crazy" after seeing him score so well and giving them a quick wave.
