Strictly Come Dancing: Shirley reveals why audience don't clap when Rose performs

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has revealed why the audience is not allowed to clap when Rose Ayling-Ellis is performing on the show.

Ayling-Ellis, an actress who is also deaf, has wowed fans with her performances on the show, but they're not allowed to show their appreciation in the usual fashion.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Ballas explained: "We have a translator just off to our left who helps Rose understand what is going on, understands the feedback, the criticism and the critiques."

"Nobody is allowed to clap while she is dancing so she can feel the vibration of the music - the vibration through the floor. So her other senses really are highlighted."

According to the Birmingham Mail, Ayling-Ellis is one of the frontrunners to lift the Glitterball Trophy, alongside John Whaite and Johannes Radebe, and AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington.

Saturday's show marks the halfway point of the current series of Strictly Come Dancing. The programme continues on Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One.

Good Morning Britain, meanwhile, continues each weekday from 6am.
