Strictly Come Dancing's John Whaite hit by devastating 'fix' claims ahead of final

Strictly Come Dancing star John Whaite will be going head to head with Rose Ayling-Ellis in Saturday night's highly-anticipated final.

AJ Odudu was supposed to be the third celebrity in the final, but she was forced to pull out due to an agonising ankle injury that left her on crutches.

It may now be a two-horse race between John and Rose, though there are calls from fans to allow Rhys Stephenson, who was eliminated last week, back into the final.

But it's been a tough week for John too, as he has been hit with cruel 'fix' claims - with some viewers claiming the show is fixed in his favour, and others insisting he was deliberately marked down.

Two weeks ago, the 32-year-old performed a Salsa to We are Family by Sister Sledge with his pro partner Johannes Radebe, and viewers were impressed.

But the judges were a tough crowd as they scored them near the bottom of the leaderboard, despite positive comments.

"We asked you to add some different content," Shirley Ballas pointed out. "You entertained, well done."

"It was terrific, I loved the disco feel," Anton said. "You came out without any inhibitions."

They received one seven, two eights and a nine - a reasonable score, but viewers were furious on John's behalf, insisting it wasn't enough.

"JOHN AND JOHANNES UNDERMARKED! #strictly," tweeted one.

Another raged: "If they score Dan higher than John i'll riot. Dan could NEVER do what John just did. #Strictly."

Some viewers were angry at the judges for under-scoring John and Johannes (BBC)

A third commented: "Yep! The judges are doing what they do so well.. undermarking!!! F**kin joke that was!! #john #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing #SCD."

"I have a feeling it might be John and Dan in the dance off. I'd also like to say that Dan will finally be out but after Michelle Visage's elimination in 2019, the judges might evict John," another fumed.

This week, John hit out at vile trolls who had left him homophobic comments as well as accusing the show of being fixed in his favour.

Taking to Instagram, John wrote: "Woke. 'Fixed', 'Box-ticking', 'Agenda', 'Bias', 'Proving a point', 'Not natural', 'Won’t be watching the final.'"

"You vicious, empty people are a dying breed.

John wrote a powerful Instagram post addressing the hate (BBC/Guy Levy)

"You’ll be left behind as the world becomes kinder, more empathic, more loving, more tolerant, more understanding. The only grievance you should feel is your own failure to evolve."

Thanking fans for their support he said in another post: "Thank you all for such heart-felt messages of kindness. The love has far outweighed the hate and I’ll never forget that."

John's fans rushed to support him in the comment section, including It Takes Two host Zoe Ball, who wrote: "Only love John xxxx."

According to bookmakers Coral, John and Johannes could be the least likely to be crowned the winners on Saturday - though these odds were calculated before AJ dropped out.

His odds stood at 16-1, while Rose was the favourite to win at 1-8.

Coral's John Hill said: "Rose has been the favourite to lift the Glitterball Trophy from very early into this series.

"Our odds suggest she has an 89 per cent chance of winning the final this weekend.

"It will be an early Christmas present for many punters as Rose has been well backed to prevail ever since she stepped foot on the dance floor in week one."

John took to his Instagram page last weekend to thank the public for their support throughout the show.

He wrote: "The fact that I am in the final with my partner, my teacher, my dear friend @johannesradebe means more than you can imagine. Because it shows that the world is becoming a better place, where love is seemingly and hopefully beginning to outweigh hate."

He went on to thank his partner and for guiding him through the weeks, adding: "Thank you to everyone who voted for us over the last 3 months. It has been so overwhelming to have been so positively supported."

* The Strictly Come Dancing final airs Saturday night at 7pm on BBC One
