Strictly Come Dancing's Johannes Radebe issues first statement since coming second

Strictly Come Dancing star Johannes Radebe has finally spoken about the final, almost three weeks after competing in it.

The South African dancer and celebrity dance partner John Whaite came second in the BBC One dance contest earlier this month.

John and Johannes, the show's first all-male couple, were firm favourites among viewers and regularly received high scores and praise from judges.

The two lost out to EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and her partner Giovanni Pernice in the two-couple final after AJ Odudu suffered an injury that forced her out of the competition.

Shortly after the final, Johannes simply shared a photo on Instagram of that pair at the end of their showdance routine, writing: "We did that @john_whaite."

But he has now penned a heartfelt message to Strictly fans.

Writing from South Africa, Johannes said: "Some people arrive and make such a beautiful impact on your life, you can barely remember what life was like without them."

The 34-year-old also said he has now watched the final at home in South Africa with friends and family.

His post continued: "It was lit! @john_whaite they are desperate to meet you hun'.The pride reflected on their faces for everything we've accomplished is heart-warming."

Johannes also thanked "everyone involved" in the show from the bottom of his heart.

He continued: "The aim has always been to inspire...Representation of any minority group in media acknowledges their existence in the real world, influencing societies openness and understanding of others which makes for a better world for all.

"Thanks to everyone who tuned in every weekend, supporting and cheering for great Saturday entertainment aimed at bringing audiences some sparkle, joy and escapism.

"Have a beautiful crossover into 2022. I'll see you soon. X [British flag emoji]".

John was among the first to comment, telling his new friend: "Love you Johannes. Can’t wait to see you," to which the dancer replied: "Love you J. I'm going to squeeze you."
