Strictly Come Dancing's Jayde Adams to star in Bristol-based ITVX comedy series

Soon-to-be-Strictly Come Dancing star Jayde Adams is set to get her own show, the comedian has announced. Proud Bristolian Jayde has co-created 'Ruby Speaking', which has been picked up by ITV for its brand new streaming platform, ITVX.

Jayde will also be starring in the upcoming scripted comedy from Yellow Door Productions, which, according to Variety, will follow the misadventures of Ruby, who often prioritises other people's problems over her own. The 37-year-old drew inspiration from her time spent as a call centre worker for the Bristol-based six-part series, which will premiere next year.

2022 has been a big year so far for Jayde, with the star receiving incredible reviews for her recent performance at Edinburgh Fringe, in addition being announced as a contestant for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing. Aside from the exciting glitz and glamour that comes with being on Strictly, Jayde's decision to appear on the hit BBC show carries a deeply poignant meaning.

Throughout her childhood, Jayde would often compete in freestyle disco dancing competitions with her older sister, Jenna, who sadly passed away in 2011 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour a few years previous. Jayde has not danced with anybody else since Jenna's untimely passing.

Announcing the big news on Instagram earlier this month, Jayde, who is from Bedminster, wrote: "I can’t believe I’m saying this…my names Jayde Adams and I’m going to be on @bbcstrictly 2022. Holding this in at @edfringe has been absolute hell."

In addition to her thriving comedy career, Jayde has appeared on-screen in various productions. The star appeared in fellow Bristolian Stephen Merchant's comedy thriller 'The Outlaws', BBC Two's BAFTA-winning 'Alma's Not Normal', and Amazon Prime's 'Good Omens'.

Jayde's Amazon Prime Special 'Serious Black Jumper' was released in 2020. A stand-up set which covered issues such as feminism, social media, and the wardrobe choices of famous people, the show received global critical acclaim and was long-listed for an Emmy.

Jayde's return to Bristol after leaving the city aged 18 was poignantly documented in 'My Hometown: Jayde Adams Coming Home', which was broadcast on BBC One in April. Last year, the former Asda Bedminster fish counter employee spoke to Bristol Live about her decision to return home after she had bought a home in South Bristol, which was then being refurbished by her family of tradespeople.

Ruby Speaking will premiere on ITVX in 2023.
