Strictly Come Dancing's Jamie Laing suffers injury during launch episode and prompts fears his journey on the show 'is over'

Jamie Laing’s future on Strictly Come Dancing could be at risk after he injured himself during the filming of the launch episode on Friday.

The Made in Chelsea star, 30, hurt his right foot after “landing awkwardly” in a group dance.

It is thought that Laing damaged a tendon, which could cause problems during the all-important first few weeks of training for the show.

A source told the Sun: “It’s touch and go for Jamie and bosses are waiting to see how his results look after he gets a proper X-ray done.

“Producers are hoping he’s just landed awkwardly during the group dance and tweaked something rather than it being a more serious injury.

"They’ll know if his Strictly journey is over before it’s even really begun in the next 24 hours or so.”

The BBC declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Standard Online. A representative for Laing is yet to respond.

Laing, who is heir to the McVitie’s fortune and runs his own confectionery business, Candy Kittens, previously told of his joy of starring on the show.

Announcing the news to his 875,000 Instagram followers, Laing said: “The news is out! Surprise! I’m doing Strictly. I’m so excited, I can’t wait. Firstly because I get to learn to dance, at last I can have some rhythm, secondly, I said this before, my mum is going to be so excited...I haven’t told her yet, and so now she knows. Surprise mum!"

This year’s contestants include the likes of Olympic medallist James Cracknell, 47, BBC Radio One DJ Dev Griffin, 34, and RuPaul's Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, 50.

The first episode of this year’s series will air on Saturday, September 7.
