Strictly Come Dancing's Greg Wise shares taped up leg ahead of first live show

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Greg Wise nursed his calf during his first Instagram stories of the series.

The British actor, who studied at university in Edinburgh, took to social media alongside his dance partner Karen Hauer, on Monday.

The thespian, who is husband to A-list actress Emma Thompson, was the ninth contestant to be confirmed on Saturday's launch night episode of Strictly.

The BBC reality TV series made history with its first deaf contestant in EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and the first male same-sex pairing with chef John Whaite and his professional partner.

Judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke were also present to be judging the performances from our celebrities in the full-length 2021 series.

Greg Wise, who famously played John Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility, which also starred Emma Thompson, shared a behind the scenes videos on Monday, where he was seen with an ice pack on his leg.

He said: "I have a slightly sore calf from hopping, so I've got tape on it."

Of Karen, he said: "She's done this to me. I used to be young and lovely, and not a complete sweaty mess. And look at this one, look, she's so fresh and she has such nice teeth."

At the weekend, the actor told the Strictly judges that he learned his only dance move during his time at university in Edinburgh.

Greg came up to Heriot Watt University from Newcastle to study architecture in his youth and has previously spoken of his fond memories of Edinburgh, even at its coldest.

He said: “We didn’t have much money for heating, so I wore two pairs of jeans and three shirts to keep warm.”

As a student, he trod the boards with Bedlam Theatre and teamed up with Braveheart actor Angus Macfadyen and Monarch of the Glen star Hamish Clark as a comedy troupe called The Thunderbunnies.

These experiences brought out the actor in him and, after qualifying, he switched studies – and cities – to study drama at Glasgow’s Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
