Strictly Come Dancing's Greg Wise score leaves viewers hitting out at judge

Strictly Come Dancing fans were left less than impressed with one of the shows judges on Saturday after they criticised Greg Wise's performance.

Viewers of the popular BBC show took to social media to share their disappointment in judge Shirley Ballas after she gave the actor a mere five out of 10.

Dancing the American Smooth with partner Karen Hauer, Wise had managed to leave the rest of the judging panel feeling positive about his moves on the dance-floor.

However, Shirley was less easy to please, describing the couple's performance to 'That's Life' as having "no fundamentals."

Greg's wife, award winning actress Emma Thompson, could be seen in the audience as he received the awkward score - but viewers were quick to offer support and question Shirley's choice.

Speaking out on twitter, one user @HAblett said: "Are we all agrees that that was WELL OFF from Shirley to Greg and Karen. It's wee one!"

Mirroring similar thoughts, user Tracey Hammond replied: "For week one, I thought that was an excellent routine by the gorgeous Greg and beautiful Karen - loved it and you!"

Another account, @living_2020 tweeted: "I don't know why Shirley is being so aggressive about fundamentals and being ruse to Tess, Greg and even Claudia. She's spoiling the fun."

In agreement, @ReginaBonas added: "What problem does Shirley have with Greg? She wasn't that harsh with the other contestants."

Greg made his debut on the show when the 2021 pairings were announced - with the show making history with its first deaf contestant in EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and the first male same-sex pairing with chef John Whaite and his professional partner.

The show will continue at 6.45pm next Saturday on BBC One.
