Strictly Come Dancing's Giovanni declares 'love' for co-star after posting heartfelt message

Strictly star Giovanni Pernice has thanked fans for their support in a post on Instagram about moving to the UK.

The professional dancer moved to London from Italy eight years ago and has been a series regular ever since. Since appearing on the BBC show, he has reached the final four times, first with former EastEnders star Georgia May Foote in 2015.

In 2017 and 2018 he narrowly missed out on the top spot after being partnered with Debbie McGee and Faye Tozer respectively. And in 2021, he took home the famous glitterball trophy with another EastEnders star, Rose Ayling-Ellis, the first deaf conestant in the show's history.

The 32-year-old posted a video on Instagram to thanks fans for following his journey. Addressing his one million followers in a video message, he said: "Ciao, it’s Giovanni.

"Just to say thank you so much to everybody for following my story... I watched back and I have to say what a fantastic journey it’s been moving to the UK.

“It was always going to be difficult with the language and moving away from home. Yes it was difficult, but now looking back, it was definitely worth it.

"I would do it a hundred million times and again and again and again. And to everybody out there who’s thinking to do the big move, there is a whole world of opportunity.

"So if you’re thinking to do it, just do it. You have one life to live. Go explore. Take risks. Nothing is permanent people.

"You can always change your situation, but if you’re thinking to do it, just go for it, do it. Good luck."

Shirley Ballas, head judge on Strictly, was one of the first to respond, writing: ""@giovannipernice I’m proud of you."

He responded saying: "Love ya," with a heart emoji, reported the Mirror.

Fans also responded to Giovanni's Instagram feed with messages of support after he revealed that he couldn't speak a word of English before coming to the UK. In a caption, he added: "All the achievements, professionally and personally, it’s been amazing! Moving to London was one of the best decisions I have ever made!"

One fan wrote: "So happy you did come to the UK otherwise who else could entertain the nation like you. Your hard work and determination are an inspiration to us all. Grazie Mille [thank you very much in Italian] Giovanni."

Another wrote: "There are so many of us here in the UK who are so glad you made the move to London. We all love you Giovanni."

A third added: "My husband made the same journey in 1979! If he hadn’t we would never have met!

"I love the fact I have an Italian husband. Love him."
