Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke confuses viewers with regional slang

There are plenty of words which are unique to different regions of the UK, but only a few cause real confusion by having completely different meanings in different locations.

On Satuday night's Strictly semi-final pro-dancer turned judge anton Du Beke landed on just such a phrase, which was certainly meant with confusion by some viewers in the West Country.

When judging Aj and Kai's stunning Rumba, which they received a whopping 39 out of 40 for, Anton said: "Let me tell you about the rumba. I rather like the rumba done like this, it's my favourite sort of rumba. I like it all sophistcated, and elegant, in a lovely frock... Lovely line, full bifta."

For many Strictly fans Anton's critiques made perfect sense, knowing he meant AJ had given it her all. However, some were a little more confused by his choice of words.

Caroline Birks tweeted: "Did Anton just say ‘the full bifta’? I thought that was a specific kinda slang"

Ryan Greaves said: "Full Bifta? Know what Anton’s up to after the show"

One person, whose username is Slapstick Sally, noticed even the subtitler left out the word.

It appears for many a "bifta" refers to a marijuana cigarette. It's unlikey this is what Anton was referring to on BBC One's biggest saturday night show, although come to think of it, it was a very slow dance...
