Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden thanks Tom Fletcher for his time with her in a very sweet message

Welsh professional dancer Amy Dowden and her partner, McFly frontman Tom Fletcher, were the eighth couple to leave Strictly Come Dancing - and now she's sent him a very sweet message.

The pair danced a Couples Choice dance to On My Own from the musical Les Miserables during Musicals Week and Tom dedicated the dance to his sister Carrie Hope Fletcher who is performing in Les Miserables in the West End.

This was not enough to see them through to next week as they lost the dance-off to Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu and a very emotional Amy and Tom said goodbye to the show.

Amy has since taken to Instagram to share a sweet message of her thanks to Tom and his adorable family, the Fletchers, for "making our journey even more special by being part of it".

During the competition Amy has become very close with Tom and his family and Tom's wife, Giovanna Fletcher who won the first series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here that was filmed in north Wales at Gwrych Castle , has often posted about her new friendship with Amy.

In her heartfelt message Amy said that the family would not be able to get rid of her.

She said: "Thank you to the whole Fletcher family for welcoming me and for making our journey even more special by being part of it. Like I said you are not getting rid of me!"

In the post she called Tom "humble, caring, and hardworking" and said she was proud of him for always staying true to himself.

She finished the post by saying that despite not winning the competition, she gained something else.

Amy said: "Tom from the bottom of my heart thank you for the memories I will always treasure. We may not have the glitterball but I gained the Fletcher family!!!!"

Strictly Come Dancing is next on Saturday, November 27 at 7.20pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
