Strictly Come Dancing's Alex Scott gutted not to be dancing with Gorka Marquez

Strictly Come Dancing star Alex Scott has taken a swipe at producers for ditching professional Gorka Marquez from the main line-up this year.

The Spanish hunk won't be dancing with a celebrity this year, and former England footballer Alex, 34, says she's disappointed not to get a chance to be partnered with him.

When MirrorOnline asked if she's got eye on any of the pros, she said: "I think you have to break it down - it was Gorka, Neil [Jones], Kevin's [Clifton] my height... and then Gorka's not in it this year so I'm like 'Seriously? Have a word!'

"So I'm going to have to wait and see."

Alex is 5/1 to win the Glitterball - but her biggest challenge could be keeping her mum calm!

She added: "I thought my mum would have a heart attack! She was screaming and everything," Alex said. "She loves the show and she's already telling me, 'You need to work on this'. She will be [at the live shows] every week!

Alex went on to insist she hopes viewers support her during the run - as she's not a particularly confident dancer.

She added: "I hope the public go on the journey with me. I don't know dance - even though I did Sport Relief two years ago I don't know dancing, I'm an athlete. That's me through and through.

"Am I nervous? I'm used to critiques with football - every time we have to come off the field we have to analyse stuff so I just want to enjoy the experience."

But is she worried about people with more dance training having a head start?

"I think everyone's on their own journey - [fellow contestant] Kerim [Zeroual] might have dance training but I might add a different element to the show.

"I never compare myself to who's got training - I'm on my journey. Yeah we're together but when it's one-on-one it's about me and my personality.

"I'm not looking at him, 'Ugh, he's got it easy'. He's such a nice guy.

"Saffron's [Barker] nice too, she's really been studying the routine on YouTube - cos she's a YouTuber. But no, I think everyone's going to bring different dynamic to the show, which is nice."
