Strictly Come Dancing pros 'seek union advice as tensions rise' amid vaccine row

Strictly Come Dancing's professionals have allegedly called in their union amid the ongoing drama over Covid vaccinations.

According to reports, three dancers have chosen not to have the jab and this has caused tension behind the scenes.

The professionals are believed to have asked for advice and support from their union - which could even lead to industrial action.

The Sun on Sunday reports that a source said: "Both vaccinated and unvaccinated dancers have gone to the union. They want to know how to navigate their rights with BBC bosses.

"Understandably the dancers are not well-versed in industrial relations and are starting to feel the pressure.

“While some are against the having the vaccine, others are rigid about not catching Covid as they need to work."

The source continued: "It’s all getting increasingly tense and could even lead to the union recommending some sort of action by those who feel aggrieved.

"Some of the hair and make-up team have decided against getting jabbed too which has raised eye-brows as they are obviously in very close contact with the cast.

"They do wear face masks while they’re working, but there is still a risk. It feels like a disaster waiting to happen," the insider added.

When contacted by The Mirror, a Strictly spokesperson said: "We do not comment on speculation of somebody’s COVID vaccination status. Strictly Come Dancing production continues to follow strict government and industry guidelines to ensure the safety of all on the show."

They added: "It is not the case that concerns have been raised with the BBC or the Strictly production team from dancers or celebrities about vaccination, or that they have threatened to quit."

Former Strictly head judge Len Goodman described the situation as 'madness' (BBC)

Meanwhile, former head judge Len Goodman said it was "madness" that unvaccinated people are part of this year's series.

He told The Sun on Sunday: “I don’t understand why everyone on Strictly wasn’t required to be fully vaccinated before the show started.

“It’s madness — especially as you’re dancing in such close proximity to each other.

“I can imagine it becoming quite confrontational if anyone found out their partner wasn’t vaccinated.

“People need to realise it’s not just about them, but it’s about having respect for others and especially the older people who have proved to be more vulnerable," the 77-year-old added.

His comments come after Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden were forced to sit out of week two after both testing positive for Covid last weekend.

The pair are hoping to be back in Elstree Studios for week three, and are both currently isolating separately at their homes.

Strictly Come Dancing: The Results airs Sunday at 7:05pm on BBC One.
