Strictly Come Dancing line-up: Bill Bailey confirmed for new series

Bill Bailey is the latest celebrity to be confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing.

The announcement was made on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Thursday morning.

"I'm not really Lord of the Dance... I'm more the caretaker," admitted Bill.

"So it will be quite a challenge but that's what this is all about... Actually that is one of my favourite dances, the Hokey Cokey, so I'm hoping to introduce that this year as one of the dances."

Zoe assured him his performances were sure to be 'telly gold'.

"Are you dancing with a man or a woman?" she asked, after Strictly's first same sex partnership was revealed yesterday.

"A woman I assume. But a human will do for me," responded Bill.

The 55-year-old funny man and multi instrumentalist explained he signed up to the show for an 'adrenaline rush' after the closure of theatres this year but an end to any comedy shows.

Bill, 55, will be joining Nicola Adams, Caroline Quentin, Ranvir Singh, Jason Bell, Clara Amfo and Max George on the star-studded line-up this year.

Boxer Nicola Adams is set to make history with her appearance on the show as she will be in Strictly's first same-sex pairing.

Speaking after her name was added to the line-up yesterday, Nicola said it felt 'amazing' to be part of a boundary-breaking movement.

She said: "I’m really excited to be joining this year’s incredible line-up for Strictly Come Dancing. I’m a huge fan of the show and am thrilled to be part of something that holds such a special place in so many people’s hearts.

"People might know me from work in the ring, but I'll be every bit as passionate and dedicated on the dance-floor too.

"I also wanted to thank the BBC for supporting me and making me the first ever all female-pairing; and it’s amazing to be a part of the movement for change, diversity and breaking boundaries in the entertainment industry."

The 18th series will kick off in October with a shorter run and less celebrities taking part than usual.

While judge Bruno Tonioli will only be appearing on the Sunday night results show amid coronavirus restrictions banning him from travelling back and forth from America as usual.

It Takes Two co-host Rylan Clark-Neal assured fans that Strictly will be the same show they know and love.

"I'm not the official spokesperson for Strictly or anything," he told Radio Times , "but all I know is it's the biggest show on TV, it's the BBC's diamond, it's their number one show.

"There is no way Strictly would go on air if it couldn’t be the Strictly everyone loves. It would be a million times better and easier to go, 'We're not doing it this year, let's wait', because there's no point doing something that people love and they've known so well. I'm 100% confident it wouldn't be going out if it wasn't the Strictly everyone knows and loves."
