Strictly Come Dancing launch party behind the scenes- glitz, glitter and glam

Strictly Come Dancing professionals, judges and celebrities gathered last night for the 2019 series red carpet launch - and it was packed with more glitter than you could ever imagine.

With just 11 days to go before the start of the series, it was time for the stars to don their glitziest glad-rags and head to Television Centre in west London for a bedazzling launch.

And behind the scenes, excitement levels reached fever pitch as the professional dancers ran around getting ready to return to the stage.

AJ Pritchard - brother of Love Island star Curtis Pritchard - got ready with Gorka Marquez in the makeup room where he was filmed having touches of powder brushed onto his face.

"So we are getting makeup-ready, me and Mr Perfection," Gorka told his Instagram followers as he panned his camera over to AJ.

"Well the cameras are getting ready for me so...hi," AJ laughed.

"So what needs to be done?" Gorka pressed him.

"A bit of concealer, but obviously you know it's getting to the next level when you're getting your eyebrows gelled in," AJ laughed.

"For me, less is more," said Gorka, smugly.

The makeup team - led by Ant McPartlin's ex Lisa Armstrong - were on hand to mop up sweaty brows and pile on the voluminous false lashes from early in the morning.

They will be at Elstree Studio every weekend until Christmas to make sure all the stars look their absolute best for the cameras.

The wardrobe department were also run ragged as each of the nine female and nine male pros had to have matching outfits for the launch.

The women - Karen Hauer, Amy Dowden, Dianne Buswell, Nancy Xu Xi, Katya Jones, Nadiya Bychkova, Oti Mabuse, Luba Mushtuk and Janette Manrara - all wore plunging white dresses with fringe skirts, paired with high-heeled dancing shoes that caught the light with their sparkly detail.

Most of them had their hair worn lose so they could swish it around as they twirled about the stage.

The men - Neil Jones, Kevin Clifton, AJ, Anton Du Beke, Aljaž Škorjanec, Giovanni Pernice, Gorka, Graziano Di Prima and Johannes Radebe - all wore black trousers with white shirts that had been studded with glittering rhinestones and metal rings at the collars.

"The outfits this year are gorgeous," Katya cooed as she posed up with new dancer Nancy, who screamed with excitement as they made their way to the studio in a group taxi.

Even stars from previous years couldn't seem to stay away - 2018 contestant Joe Sugg was on hand to record the BBC Strictly podcast, and was seen hanging around backstage waiting to watch girlfriend Dianne perform.

There was no sign of Kevin's parter-turned-girlfriend Stacey Dooley, however, despite the pair moving in together just months after meeting on last year's show.
