Strictly Come Dancing latest: Danny John-Jules reveals he collapsed during intense Jive rehearsals

Strictly Come Dancing star Danny John-Jules has revealed that he collapsed during rehearsals for his Jive last weekend.

The Red Dwarf star earned the first 10 of the series for his impressive Jive to Flip, Flop, Fly by Ellis Hall on Saturday with partner Amy Dowden.

And John-Jules has revealed that the routine was so exhausting that he actually fainted the day before.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on It Takes Two, John-Jules said: "It's cardio, fitness. I haven't moved like that since a long time. You worry about slowing down and if you slow down it's very obvious and a bit of a no-no.

"I did collapse after the second run, the tech run on Friday. The floor manager looked down at me looking up at the ceiling and said: 'Do you want to do another one?"'

John-Jules, 58, joked that his knees were screaming “louder than Amy” after that rehearsal.

The pair will perform an American Smooth – set in a graveyard - to Spirit In The Sky this weekend when Strictly gets a makeover for Halloween.

Of their training, Dowden said: “Today [Wednesday] was the first day we’ve managed to run it. We’re still working on the lifts but Danny has done really, really well. He hasn’t dropped me yet.

“At the end, Danny won’t be leaving the dancefloor in a normal way,” the Welsh professional teased.

It Takes Two airs weeknights at 6.30pm on BBC Two. Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday October 27 at 6.50pm on BBC One.
