Strictly Come Dancing judge says new show is 'one of the hardest things I've ever done'

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has revealed she's starring in a new show - admitting it was "one of the hardest things I've ever done".

The former professional dancer, from Leasowe, will be one of eight stars who will appear on Cooking with the Stars.

The celebs taking part will be paired with professional chefs, who will mentor themin a bid to train them to be top, restaurant-level chefs.

The ballroom dancer, 60, joins comedian and actor Griff Rhys-Jones, DJ and songwriter Naughty Boy, performer and presenter Denise Van Outen, actress Catherine Tyldesley, McFly’s Harry Judd, comedian and actor Johnny Vegas and TV presenter AJ Odudu.

The stars are currently isolating ahead of filming, but Shirley admits: “It’s quite difficult challenges. It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

“This is one amazing show.”

The professional chefs, who include British chef and TV presenter Rosemary Shrager, might have their own challenges with the Strictly star.

Shirley has previously admitted an ex-boyfriend once described a spaghetti bolognese she dished up for him as tasting “like wallpaper paste”.

“I once blew up an egg in a microwave,” she has previously said. “I opened the door and the egg exploded all over the ceiling – it was in my hair, it was everywhere.

“Hence, my children always say, ‘She can’t even boil an egg!’”

Emma Willis and Tom Allen host the brand new series which sees the stars culinary skills put to the test when they are pitted against each other.

The bottom two will have to create a dish without help from their mentor. A blind tasting test will determine who leaves the competition, The Mirror reports.

The team of professionals includes food writer and restaurant owner Nisha Katona, culinary expert and regular chef on This Morning Joseph Denison Carey, Michelin starred chef and author Mark Sargeant, chef director Jack Stein, Korean food expert and TV chef Judy Joo, renowned chef and business owner Tristan Welch and Italian chef and restaurateur Francesco Mazzei.

The new series airs on ITV this summer.
