Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia apologises to Karim over Blackpool 'dig'

Strictly Come Dancing fans certainly saw the funny side on Saturday night, when host Claudia Winkleman made a "savage" joke about contestant Karim Zeroual potentially not making it through another week.

Karim and dance partner Amy Dowden were left in tears, with the TV presenter feeling he didn't get his routine right.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood had pointed out "two big mistakes" during the performance, with the other judges also giving their critique.

As Karim joined host Claudia Winkleman upstairs, he began crying as his co-stars comforted him - but Claudia couldn't help make a comment.

Asking if he'd ever had Blackpool rock ahead of their visit there the following week, she said: " "We'll also have Blackpool rock, and if you're not there we'll bring you some back.

"I don't mean that..."

It got a mixed reaction from those there and the audience, with most seeing the funny side.

Speaking about the moment during Sunday's results show, Claudia decided to apologise to Karim.

He didn't actually take offense to the comment, but she still thought she'd say sorry anyway.

She said after he survived the latest public vote: "Karim, first of all I'm really sorry about the rock joke.

"I was just trying to make you laugh. I felt so bad."

But Karim reassured her, adding: "Do not be sorry, you did make me laugh! Don't be sorry."

He added: "I wasn't upset I was just disappointed about my dance, you know I love you for that."

Karim and Amy will perform at Blackpool Tower next weekend after surviving the vote off.

Strictly Come Dancing returns next Saturday at 7:05pm for the Blackpool special on BBC One, with the results show on Sunday at 7:15pm.
