Strictly Come Dancing: Former Bristol City goalkeeper David James confirmed as contestant

A former Bristol City goalkeeper has been confirmed on the Strictly Come Dancing line up for 2019.

David James who also played for England, was revealed as a contestant on the One Show on Wednesday, July 31.

The footballer said he had been asked to take part in the dancing show on several occasions but it took former contestant Mark Foster to convince him.

He added that he was "really excited" to be chosen and following previous successful appearances by sports stars said he felt he had "some big shoes to fill".

James played for Bristol City between 2010 and 2012.

EastEnders star Emma Barton and comedian Chris Ramsey were also revealed as contestants for series 17.

This year's series will see the return of judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli.

Dame Darcey Bussell is to be replaced by sister of Strictly professional Oti, Motsi Mabuse.
