BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing final averaged 11 million viewers on Saturday night for Jay McGuinness’s victory, easily securing another year of ratings dominance over ITV’s The X Factor.

Strictly saw an audience boost of 400,000 over last year’s final with Caroline Flack winning, although it was down on the 11.5 million that tuned in to watch Abbey Clancy win in 2013.

The main edition of the Strictly final from 6.35pm to 8pm averaged 11 million viewers, and a 50.1% share of all TV viewing, with a five-minute peak of 11.9 million.

The results show, which aired from 9pm to 10.10pm, also drew an average of 11 million and a 48.4% share of viewing. The five-minute peak was 11.7 million.

This compares to The X Factor final last week, which drew 8.4 million viewers, just 300,000 more than the lowest ever ratings recorded in the 11-year history of the show.
