Strictly Come Dancing fans fear show 'bias' as Oti Mabuse's sister becomes judge

Strictly Come Dancing viewers are slightly divided over the news dancer Motsi Mabuse is the new judge replacing Darcey Bussell on the BBC series.

Motsi is the sister of fellow dancer Oti Mabuse, who is currently a professional on the ballroom show.

On Monday, it was confirmed who Darcey’s replacement was, with many viewers excited to see the star of the German version of Strictly, Let’s Dance, take over on the panel.

Motsi started out as a professional on the show, before becoming a judge.

Oti also found fame on the series as a dancer before joining the UK version in 2015, and so has already been judged by her sibling.

But following the confirmation of the new judge, several fans raced to Twitter to confess they were worried whether Oti would have an advantage.

Some believed it could see “biased” voting on behalf of her sister, and a lack of “impartial” decisions.

While Oti has been judged by he professional sister before, so will be prepared for any criticism she’s faced with, it hasn’t stopped some viewers not being entirely sold on the idea of both sisters taking part.

One viewer said: “Slightly odd choice given her sister is a competitor.”

Another agreed: “Hmmm, is Oti leaving #Strictly and if not is it acceptable to have her sister on the judging panel?”

A third tweeted: “Whilst i'm happy for @MOTSI_MABUSE that she's the new Judge, how will she manage to remain impartial and not bias when judging her own Sister?”

Meanwhile others were much more happy about the new, defending her becoming a judge despite her link to the series.

One fan said: “Another Mabuse , if she is anything like her goddess sister Oti, it will be fine.”

A second said: “Everyone piping up saying she’ll be impartial towards her sister Oti (who is genuinely one of the best pros on the show) is just silly because she’s a judge not a child picking favourites.”
