Strictly Come Dancing evictees Charles Venn and Karen Clifton 'in pieces' over ballroom exit

Charles Venn and Karen Clifton broke down in tears on spin-off show It Takes Two after getting the boot from Strictly Come Dancing.

The Casualty star was shown the door after he faced the dreaded dance-off with Ashley Roberts on Sunday night’s results show.

The judges opted to save Roberts and Pasha Kovalev, deeming their Quickstep to Don’t Rain On My Parade “more accomplished” than Venn and Clifton who scored 35 for their routine on Saturday.

The duo were overcome with emotion as they looked back on their time on the show with It Takes Two host Zoe Ball.

Venn said: “It's obviously sad and a bit of disappointment, but there's a sense of pride. It's a weird bittersweet feeling.

“I can take my son to school in the morning and do things I haven't done for the last 14 weeks, but at the same time I don't get to spend time with this wonderful woman, this teacher.”

Clifton joked through tears: “No we’re not leaving! We’re not leaving!”

Ball added: “Everyone’s in pieces.”

Exit: Fans branded the boot 'unfair' (BBC / Guy Levy)

Their appearance comes after Venn appeared to agree with furious fans who felt he had been under-marked on Saturday night.

Following his exit, Venn liked a series of tweets from angry fans, with one reading: “I am absolutely fuming over this they danced the most beautiful Rumba absolutely gorgeous. The judges all loved it too, they gave amazing comments so what the hell happened with the scores. An absolute joke way too much favouritism this year and it’s ruining #Strictly!!!”

Viewers were left fuming with the judges' decision to kick him out, with many claiming he should have made it through to next week's semi-final.

One tweeted: "#Strictly Charles in the dance off again? "The best male contestant Rumba dancer in the show ever!"

Another posted: "Charles has come a million miles further than Ashley. He DESERVES to go through."

Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One, Saturday at 6:35pm
