Strictly Come Dancing destroys X Factor: Celebrity in Saturday's telly ratings

Strictly Come Dancing rules Saturday evenings.

The hit dance show trounced its main competitor by drawing in a whopping 8.4 million views on average.

X Factor : Celebrity, though, managed an average of just 4.5 million - not bad, but nothing on Strictly.

While X Factor peaked at an impressive 5.1 million, Strictly soared with 9 million.

Last night's Strictly saw Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden rocket back up the leader board to steal the top spot from Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse.

The board was thrown into disarray with disappointing nights for Dev Griffin and Dianne Buswell, as well as RuPaul's Drag Race star Michelle Visage and her partner Giovanni Pernice.

Last night also saw an unexpected turn of fortune for Mike Bushell and Katya Jones as they climbed a way up the board.

X Factor boasted an all new format, thought up by head honcho Simon Cowell.

Celebs who fancy their singing chops belt out some tune in front of judges Simon, Louis Walsh and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

This week saw a newly formed group that had fans talking - it featured a roster of Love Islanders.

Wes Nelson , Zara McDermott , Samira Mighty and Eyal Booker received mixed responses.

Wes in particular was praised for his rap during the group's rendition of Shawn Mendes's smash hit There's Nothing Holding Me Back.

Other contestants include former Towie icon Megan McKenna and The Chase's Jenny Ryan.

The show's part of a big shakeup for X Factor brand, as this will not see a regular contest.

Rather, X Factor: Celebrity will be followed by an All Stars edition of the show, which will see former competitors battle it out to be crowned the ultimate champion.

Fans had a lot to say about the new format, and some took to Twitter to voice their opinions.

One gushed over their favourite judge: "Why does Louis Walsh make The X factor so much better?"

Some others reached out to Jenny Ryan for her breathtaking performance.

One wrote: "@jenlion take a bow. Just caught up with celebrity x factor"

Another praised: "@jenlion Just watching X Factor Celebrity - You rock lady!"

A fourth fan had a bit of a thing for Essex girl Megan: "Anybody else watching X Factor just waiting for Megan to clearly be the best? She's one of the best country singers on earth."
