Strictly Come Dancing comic Chris Ramsey worries about raunchy routine and 'looking manly'

Comedian Chris Ramsey fears having to perform a sexy routine on Strictly – because it does not come easily to him.

The stand-up, who is partnering Karen Hauer on the BBC1 show, said having to look “manly” and serious on the dancefloor will be a big challenge.

After performing a quickstep last night to Prince’s Let’s Go Crazy, the 33-year-old said: “The quickstep is lovely. It’s very skippy and daft and very, very fun.”

He said it is “100million per cent” ideal for him as a comic, adding: “It’s when I’ve got to be sexy that I’m going to be knackered, if I’ve got to do tangos and that.

“Having to look intense on my face without pulling a stupid grin, that worries me.

“I like smiling so I’m not looking forward to where you’ve got to look really serious and try to look a bit, I don’t know, manly. It’s not something that comes easy to me.”

He joked: “I’ve never had a smouldering look. I don’t know where you can buy one from – I’m hoping to purchase one before I need to do it.”

DJ Dev Griffin (PA)

Ramsey is trying not to worry that he might be eliminated each week. “If I go, I go, but all I want to do is know that I am improving every week,” he said.

On whether his confidence has been knocked after seeing DJ Dev Griffin make a shock exit last week, despite being considered one of the stronger dancers, he said: “No, because I expect it’s going to be me every week.”
