Strictly Come Dancing champion Joanne Clifton takes centre stage as The Rocky Horror Picture Show comes to Dublin

It's a far cry from the ballroom but Joanne Clifton is loving her starring role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

After being crowned Strictly Come Dancing professional champion in 2016, the 35-year-old decided to turn her hand to musical theatre.

She landed roles as Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie in February 2017 and as Pittsburgh welder and dancer Alex Owens in Flashdance in November.

Now she is taking centre stage as Janet Weiss.

Joanne told the Irish Mirror: “Every show is completely different. You don’t know how the audience are going to respond.

“Last night there were people fidgeting in their seats at the start of the Time Warp, too shy to get up – but they were all dancing around by the end. It was great to see.”

Joanne also revealed some of the cast members hit Temple Bar after Monday’s show.

And she said: “I remember one Paddy’s Day I was over here and I had the best night.

“I love Dublin. It’s chaotic but in a good way.”

  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show is playing at Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre every night until Saturday. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com starting at €26.
