Strictly Come Dancing bosses 'plan to have two same sex couples' after last year's success

Strictly Come Dancing is reportedly set to have two same sex couples this year after the success of last year's show.

Katya Jones and Nicola Adams made history as the first ever stars to dance together in a same sex pairing and it seems BBC bosses are keen to keep the inclusivity going.

They are supposedly looking at having a male same sex couple this year, alongside a female dancing duo, according to a source from The Sun.

"Bosses are still looking at all the options but given the positive feedback from last year, they're seriously considering having two same-sex couples, one male and one female," they told the publication.

"The show has to move forward and viewers loved last year's series."

Last month, the BBC revealed complaints about alleged "blatant projection of homosexuality" had been rejected and "not upheld".

Strictly favourites Katya and Nicola had sparked complaints amongst some viewers of the show when they reunited to dance together in the final, following their earlier exit.

Show judge Craig Revel Horwood spoke out about the complaints at the time, calling them "ridiculous".

"It's about time and I think it's absolutely brilliant, I really do," he said.

The BBC also revealed in a statement how bosses were "proud" after same sex couple Katya and Nicola made history.

"The show is first and foremost about dance, the sex of each partner within a pairing should have no bearing on their routine," the organisation said.

The Mirror has contacted a spokesperson for the BBC for comment.
