Strictly Come Dancing: Amy Dowden shares health update after being rushed to hospital

Amy Dowden has shared an update to fans after she was rushed to hospital in an ambulance a few days ago.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional shared on Monday that she had experienced a Crohn's disease flareup, after fans noticed her absence from last weekend's episodes of the competition.

Even though she and celeb partner Tom Fletcher were voted off in week 9, the professional dancers usually continue to appear in group dances through the remainder of the series.

Following the health scare, Amy has updated her fans through her Instagram stories, as reported by The Mirror.

On Tuesday night, she wrote: "Just want to say the biggest thank you for all the lovely messages, comments and posts I've received."

Revealing to fans that she is on the mend, the dancer added: "Feeling so much better and certainly feeling the love! Thank you thank you thank you!!!"

Earlier in the week, Amy revealed that she was unwell by writing on Instagram: "Thanks for the all messages over the weekend.

"Unfortunately, I was missing from the show as I had an unexpected Crohn’s flare up and hospital admission in which I received unbelievable care."

She then explained how her co-stars, Sara and Tom, were taking care of her, while her husband Ben Jones was working away from home.

Amy also told that Tom and wife Giovanna Fletcher kindly opened up their home to her during her moment of need.

Amy shared: "I’m recovering very well and certainly being well looked after and look forward to returning to the dance floor. Big thanks to lovely @saradaviescc and @tomfletcher for taking care of me (of all the days to be poorly, Ben was in Blackpool with the dance school).

"To the Fletchers who made sure I had everything and more at the hospital, have brought me back to theirs where the whole family are giving me all the love, care, burnt toast (Tom), unlimited supply of @mrsgifletcher clothes along with @tomfletcher sock choice you could possibly need, lots of drawings and pretend injections from my new doctors Buzz, Buddy and Max.

"Thank you, they really were sent to me."

Last year, Amy opened up about her her battle with Crohn's disease in a TV documentary.

During the candid film, the talented performer shared that the condition - which causes inflammation and ulcers in the digestive system - led to her being hospitalised more than 100 times.

In May, Amy spoke about her condition with Hello! magazine and told how the high dose of intravenous steroids she has to take has led to her being conscious of her weight.

She described how the medication helps her to feel better but also makes her body bloat and her face become more puffy because it creates water retention.

She said that she has been dealing with the effect of medication on her body throughout her career.

"I was either too skinny and people assumed I was anorexic, or I'd bloat from my medication," she revealed.

And she described one comment which was particularly hurtful. "I'd just come off the dance floor when a dressmaker in the changing room looked at me and said 'She has a fat bottom and a thick middle,' she continued.

Amy recalled: "I felt so humiliated and embarrassed. I was only 21 and still trying to deal with my condition. As a dancer struggling to fit into tiny costumes, I became very self-conscious."
