Strictly Come Dancing 2021: Who is Bake Off's John Whaite and his partner Paul Atkins?

John Whaite has been confirmed as the fourth celebrity name taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2021.

The winner of the Great British Bake Off 2012 confessed he'd been up all night ahead of the news being shared, revealing he is "excited and nervous".

The 33-year-old will be part of the show's first ever same-sex male partnership.

It is yet to be confirmed who his partner will be, but John has hopes for someone tall.

Speaking of his new venture, John said: "I'm so excited and very, very nervous, I'm not gonna lie. I'm actually shaking inside.

"It is an honour, when they [Strictly bosses] asked me if I would be interested I just bit their hand off.

"To do that and represent the LGBTQ+ community is one thing, but also to see two men or two women dancing together, it is not necessarily about sexuality, it's about intimacy and respect."

He added: "I'm so excited on so many levels to be doing the first ever male partnership, I don’t think it has sunk in yet."

As John gears up to compete in this year's series of the show, we look at what he does and who his partner is.

At the age of 23, John, who is from Chorley in Lancashire, took part in the third series of GBBO, where he was crowned the winner.

He currently works as a chef and author.

After winning the 2012 series, John went on to release recipe books, founded a cookery school near his hometown, and has become an accomplished TV chef.

The star has appeared on daytime shows like Lorraine, securing his own weekly slot on the show.

He has also made an appearance on This Morning, What's Cooking?, The Alan Titchmarsh Show and Sunday Brunch as a guest chef, as well as securing another regular spot on Steph's Packed Lunch.

John is also a presenter in his own right. He has previously hosted ITV's cooking show Chopping Block, which aired in 2016 and 2017, alongside Rosemary Shrager.

In terms of his love-life, John is engaged to graphic designer Paul Atkins.

In 2017, the baker took to Instagram to announce the news, sharing: "My true love. We've decided to get married. We've fought for these rights, and we shall use them."

John keeps his relationship private, but the couple had been together for nearly ten years at the time of the post, and they appear to be going from strength-to-strength.
