Strictly Come Dancing 2021 line-up: Katie McGlynn seventh star announced

Katie McGlynn has been confirmed as the seventh name for the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 line-up.

The Coronation Street and Hollyoaks star, 28, announced she was taking part in the show on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday morning.

BBC Breakfast also surprised viewers by announcing Dan Walker as the eighth name at the same time.

The show announced Katie with a drum roll as dancers held feathers over her face before dropping them to give the big reveal.

"I have been so nervous but really excited for today," Katie said.

"I've had to keep it quiet for so long I'm just relieved that everyone can know now."

Katie revealed that she had been keeping it a secret since February.

She told her mum and dad and a couple of friends, but kept it a secret from everybody else.

Katie is best known for playing Sinead Tinker in Corrie, a role she had from 2013 until 2020, when she left when the character died of cancer.

She also stars as Becky Quentin in Hollyoaks.

Katie's other roles include starring in Waterloo Road, The Syndicate and Moving On.

Speaking to the BBC ahead of the announcement, Katie said: "It's been so hard keeping it a secret, but I can finally say that I’m getting ready to shake my shimmy and become part of the Strictly family! I

"I'm really not a dancer, but I’m so excited to learn a new skill on this crazy journey and cannot wait to slip into some sequins along the way.

"Although I do get to have so much fun as an actress, a lot of my roles have involved quite serious and challenging storylines, so I’m fully ready to let my hair down and do something different, even if it is completely outside of my comfort zone.

"I can’t promise that I’ll be the best, but I’m going to give it 110% on the dance floor! As long as I don't fall over I'll be happy."

The star was the latest name to announce their place on the BBC One dancing series, which will return to screens later this year.

Following Dragon's Den success Sara Davies joining the bill, this means seven stars in total have now been confirmed for Strictly so far with more names to be announced soon, so viewers should keep an eye out for the next big announcement.

First to be confirmed was McFly guitarist and singer Tom Fletcher, who shared his excitement to follow in the footsteps of his band mate Harry Judd, who won the series back in 2011.

TV presenter AJ Odudu was the third person announced, with her thrilled she could finally tell her mother the good news.

Bake Off champion John Whaite was the fourth name revealed, with him set to make history on the show by being part of the series' first ever all-male pairing.

Dan Walker was also confirmed for Strictly on BBC Breakfast (BBC)

He said: "It is an honour, when they asked me if I would be interested I just bit their hand off.

"To do that and represent the LGBTQ+ community is one thing, but also to see two men or two women dancing together, it is not necessarily about sexuality, it’s about intimacy and respect.

“I think that is gonna be such a great thing in our culture where men are conditioned not to open up and be emotional, and I think it will help to combat that."

Finally, the fifth name to be revealed so far was CBBC host Rhys Stephenson, with Sara making it six on Monday this week.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
