Strictly Come Dancing 2020 WILL go ahead even if coronavirus has second wave

Since 2004 Strictly Come Dancing has become a stalwart of the autumn TV schedule. Reliable family viewing which lifts the spirits and helps ease us into the festive season.

But with the coronavirus pandemic forcing many TV shows to halt production this year there has been speculation the glitteriest show on television may have to skip 2020.

While bosses have assured viewers they are doing everything in their power to bring the show back, it has now been confirmed the dancing competition will go ahead, even if the country sees a second wave of Covid-19.

Speaking to the Daily Star, BBC entertainment controller Kate Phillips said they would make sure the show went ahead.

"There is a feeling if Strictly is back then all is OK with the world," she told the newspaper.

And if there is a second wave of the virus and no audience is allowed, the series will still happen.

She added: "I've looked at international versions. Some have already done it during lockdown and we could see it was doable without an audience."

Kate confirmed that "celebrities will have contact with their partner and work together closely" but contact with others will be minimised.

Bristolian Maya Jama is hotly tipped to take part in the show, as is Made In Chelsea's Jamie Laing and daytime TV royalty Lorraine Kelly.

However, less contestants will be taking part this year, and the series will not run for as many weeks with an October start predicted as opposed to the usual September date.
