Strictly bosses eye up Catherine Tate to bring comedy element to new series

Strictly bosses want to sign comic Catherine Tate for the show – if she can be bovvered.

BBC programme chiefs are considering a big money deal to bring her in as one of this winter’s top names.

They think viewers will love Catherine, whose catchphrases include lippy schoolgirl Lauren’s “Am I bovvered, though”.

Catherine Tate is also much-loved for her foul-mouthed Nan character (BBC/Tiger Aspect)

The 51-year-old star spends most of her time in the US after reportedly marrying American screenwriter Jeff Gutheim, 48, last year.

But Catherine, whose BBC comedy sketch show was last screened 12 years ago, still has a house in London.

Strictly Come Dancing producers are keen to have a funny female in this season’s line-up after the success of Geordie comedian Chris Ramsey, 33, who reached the final last year.

An insider said: “The channel is willing to pay big money as she is already a household name and will be a hit with viewers.”

The BBC said: “We don’t comment on speculation.”
