Strictly alum Aljaz Skorjanec supported by former co-stars after falling ill on tour

Aljaž Škorjanec has been supported by some of his former co-stars from Strictly Come Dancing after announcing that he had to postpone a show due to illness this week.

The professional dancer, 32, and his wife Janette Manrara, 39, embarked on their A Christmas to Remember tour recently, with it having opened in Portsmouth last month.

It has since seen them visit cities such as Manchester and Brighton, but unfortunately their performance in Belfast earlier this week was postponed because Aljaz was unwell.

The couple had been due to perform at the Waterfront Hall in the city on Monday (December 5) but announced to fans that the show would not go ahead as scheduled.

Aljaz - who announced his departure from Strictly earlier this year after nine years on the show - shared a statement about the show with his followers on Instagram recently.

It read: "We are devastated that we have to cancel tonight's show in Belfast. We were so excited to come to perform for you but unfortunately I am truly unwell. Doctors have advised me not to travel or perform.

"We are working on a new date for Belfast so please retain your ticket for the new date or request a refund from your point of purchase. We are sorry but we hope you see you very soon."

Janette - who left Strictly last year, after eight years among its pro dancers - added that her husband's "health is important" and said the decision had been with a "heavy heart".

The news prompted messages of support and well-wishes from some of Aljaz's former colleagues, including a number of fellow dancers who are still on the BBC show.

Gorka Marquez, 32, responded: "Get better soon brother". Nancy Xu, 31, said: "Getting better soon Alj". Whilst their co-star Amy Dowden, 32, commented: "Sending all my love".

Aljaz's former celebrity partner Gemma Atkinson, 38, also responded to the news. The actor - who is engaged to Gorka - wrote: "Ahhh get well soon! Sending well wishes".

And she wasn't the only former contestant to react, with Ore Oduba, 37, writing: "I'm so sorry mate." The presenter - who won Strictly back in 2016 - added: "Get well soon".

Aljaz and Janette - who have been married since 2017 - were able to continue their festive tour yesterday, with the two dancers taking to the stage at the Forum in Bath.

Janette issued an apology to fans following the show yesterday, with the It Takes Two co-host saying that they would have performed in Belfast had Aljaz been up to it.

She said: "Apologies for the inconvenience caused. If Aljaz could have performed, he absolutely would have." She added: "We truly cannot wait to come to Belfast".

The tour is set to see them head to venues in locations such as Blackpool, Cardiff and Glasgow in the coming days. It's due to conclude in Newcastle on December 18.
