Stretch of Renfield Street closed as emergency works underway to repair collapsed manhole

A section of a busy Glasgow city centre street has been closed off due to a collapsed manhole.

The issue occurred on Renfield Street at around 7.30am this morning, with the area now closed to all traffic and pedestrians southbound from Bath Street to West Regent Street.

Glasgow City Council has confirmed that works to repair the fault are ongoing.

It is not currently known how long the road will remain closed for.

A statement from the council's Traffic Control and Management team said: "Renfield Street is closed southbound between Bath Street and West Regent Street to allow urgent repairs to a collapsed manhole."

Diversions are in place for drivers on Bath Street, Wellington Street and West Regent Street.
