Stretch of M8 bridge closed due to ongoing police incident

A stretch of the M8 is currently closed following a police incident this morning.

The incident, which is ongoing, happened at around 9.45am this morning, according to Traffic Scotland.

The M8 eastbound between J19 and J18 near Anderston is closed to all traffic following the incident.

A statement from Glasgow City Council's TraffCom team reads: "Following a Road Traffic Incident, the M8 Motorway is currently closed to all Eastbound traffic at Junction 19 (approach to Charing Cross).

"Road users are advised to avoid this route and delays should be expected."

St Vincent Street has now also been closed to all traffic between North Street and Newton Street.

Details on the incident or any injuries are not currently known.

Heavy delays have been reported in the area and traffic at a standstill on the road.

Traffic Scotland have advised drivers to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

It is not known when the incident will be cleared and the road will reopen.

A statement from Traffic Scotland reads: "M8 eastbound J19 to J18 CLOSED due to a police incident. Please #UseAltRoute meantime. Long delays on approach - traffic at a stand."
