Stretch of Glasgow's Nitshill Road shut for emergency works following burst water valve

A stretch of a busy Glasgow road has been shut for emergency works following a burst water valve.

Nitshill Road has been reduced to one lane in each direction between Peat Road and Barrhead Road

Glasgow City Council confirmed the closure on the major south side road, adding, "the duration of the works is unknown at present".

Scottish Water has said the cause of the incident is a burst 9inch valve, with the road expected to reopen tomorrow.

A spokesperson for the company said: “Yesterday, Tuesday 31 August, we attended a burst on a 9inch valve on Nitshill Road.

"The burst was isolated and a section of Nitshill Road is reduced to one lane in each direction between Peat Road and Barrhead Road to enable repairs to be carried out safely. The road is expected to re-open on Thursday 2nd September, once the repair has been completed and the reinstatement works done. Customer services were not affected during this work.”
