Stressed out BBC staff (and there are plenty of them according to the last staff survey) can now see exactly how much pressure they are under thanks to new ‘Health Kiosks’ that have been installed around the corporation’s buildings, including in New Broadcasting House and Salford. The Dalek-like machines provide “the user with the facility to take their own health metrics, in confidence, without having to make an appointment or see a health professional,” according to the BBC. Hmmm. The kiosks measure things like weight, blood pressure and heart rate and allow users to “track their progress over time” and give people’s “‘Heart Age’, which is a useful and easy to understand idea of their general health”. But, remembering an incident two years ago when an ambulance crew was allegedly initially prevented from attending a journalist with a suspected heart attack for fear of being seen on screen in the NBH newsroom, Monkey wonders if users do discover their heart rate is off the scale, will they be guided to leave the building before dialling 999?
