Street parties, dozens playing football and groups of drinkers - the staggering lockdown call outs GMP dealt with in just two hours

Police in Trafford received a staggering 35 reports of people breaking social distancing rules in just two hours on Wednesday night.

They included reports of streets parties in Old Trafford, more than 30 people playing football in Partington and large groups drinking and causing trouble in Urmston.

As Manchester basked in the hottest day of the year so far, other incidents included more than 15 children playing inside a closed playground in Sale, large gatherings in Flixton, barbecues in Altrincham and multiple reports of big groups of youths.

GMP Trafford Chief Insp Shan Nasim said that while the sunny weather had a 'major impact', the majority of incidents involved youngsters and called on parents to ensure their kids were following the lockdown rules.

He added: "I can appreciate continuing to follow the government guidance to protect your health can be difficult as the weeks have turned into months. However the vast majority of Trafford residents are following social distancing measures to keep their friends and family safe.

"Unfortunately a small minority seem to think that Covid-19 is no longer an issue as they ignore the advice and put themselves and those around them at risk. Yesterday the warm weather had a major impact on the volume of reports we received in a short period of time.

"We currently have a limited number of officers and we try to attend as many reports as possible to engage, educate and where necessary prosecute those that continue to ignore the advice.

"While officers are responding to these reports they are unable to attend other emergency calls.

"The majority of issues related to younger people , so I would ask parents and guardians to remind their children about the government advice to keep everyone in the household safe and well.

"We all need to keep on playing our part in stopping the spread of Covid-19 to protect our communities."
