Street near Scottish Parliament on lock down amid reports of 'suspicious item'

A street near to the Scottish Parliament has been locked down amid reports of a 'suspicious item'.

Cops swooped on Holyrood Road in Edinburgh after being called to the scene around 1.35pm on Tuesday December 17.

Eyewitnesses told on Twitter how they were evacuated from their building as cops cordoned off the city centre area.

A bomb squad has been sent to inspect the package.

Kevin O’Sullivan said on Twitter: “Police have just ordered us to evacuate our building - said they were dealing with an ‘incident’ on Holyrood road in Edinburgh - royal logistic corps bomb disposal at scene”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called around 1:35pm this afternoon to reports of a suspicious item found on Holyrood Road, Edinburgh.

"Police are at the scene.

"A cordon has been put in place as a precaution.

"The EOD will be attending to examine the item."
